A non-teased head on a Westie from the early 70's. Shows the desired large nose, as well as a wide blunt muzzle. His eyes are well place and shaped, showing good width between them. All of this along with the ear placement tell you this dog has the correct width of skull desired. Correct muzzle to skull proportions can also be seen. | This young dog, without lots of head furnishings, shows desired head proportions in profile. He also shows a nice blending of the neck into the shoulders. A lovely example of nicely blended coat, and shows correct stripping down the foreleg. He has a longish tail, but it is not above the top of the skull. |

Very typical head furnishings on a young Westie. Muzzle and ears look long due to lack of full head furnishings on this 11-month male. Width between the eyes indicates this is not a narrow head, it is just lacking in furnishings. Note large black nose and desired dark ear pigment. | Though not in true profile this dog shows a good outline. You can see a correct muzzle to backskull ratio on a mature dog with mature furnishings. At first glance the muzzle may look short, partially due to the way the backskull is groomed. A good example of a large black nose set on properly. The coat is blended very well and the furnishings are not exaggerated. |
