Comments
The Min Pin has a stallion like appearance with his sturdy little body, his unique gait and fearless personality. He should resemble strength and vitality. He is a free spirited breed that is never stacked on the floor and will sometimes stand still on the table. He is a natural show dog and enjoys himself to the utmost. Sometimes a young dog is unsure of himself but this should not be confused with fear. Note that the word substance is mentioned several time in the standard. Elegance or refinement is never used although implied with statements such as gracefully curved and slightly arched. This is a moderate breed. No extremes anywhere, including gait.
Size, Proportion, Substance
Size
-10 inches to 12 ½ inches in height allowed, with desired height 11 inches to 11 ½ inches measured at highest point of the shoulder blades. Disqualification-Under 10 inches or over 12 ½ inches in height. Length of males equals height at withers. Females may be slightly longer.Comments
A two and a half inch spread can make a big difference in overall appearance in the Min Pin. You are looking at a 2 and a half inch square and generally the first impression is that the 10 inch dog lacks bone and leg while the 12 and a half inch dog may look too coarse. The size should not be the decision if the dog is within the limits. If in doubt, measure. Don’t just put them to the end of the line. It doesn’t do a service to the breed to allow an oversized or undersize dog to be shown or a dog of correct breed type to be left out because it is at one end of the size standard. More important than size within the standard is balance and proportion.
